Trading well

Newable's International Trade Consultancy, the Export Engine, took the stage at the CBI's Annual MSB Conference recently.

The CBI is known for its support of the UK’s biggest businesses. However, it works hard to support medium size businesss as well. This was its focus at their annual MSB Conference for around 300 delegates which took place in London recently.

The Export Engine was invited to lead two breakout sessions on the theme of driving growth through Interntational Trade.

Joining Newable’s Brian Dent were two of his clients, Bonnie May, Global Operations Director Global Infusions Group and Chris Dobson, Chairman of Mortimer and Torftech as well as Rob Cherry of Morgan Blake, the legal firm. The session was moderated by James Ashton Bell, the CBI’s Head of Trade.

Both sessions were well attended and the panel provided practical delegates with practical tips and lessons on how to trade  overseas successfully. Brexit, of course, was the elephant in the room. The panel, reporting from the front line as it were, were not unduely bothered by the “white noise” of uncertaintly.  It was simply considered another challenge to navigate.

The top tips were to continue to be bold and amibtious for your company, treat exporting as a long term strategic play, and to take expert advice to minimise the inevitable mistakes along the way.

As Bonnie and Chris confirmed, a great product or service, an agile strategic framework and sheer hardwork and determination will bring rewards in terms of sustainable overseas sales.
