Space is a fundamental part of our economic future

Science Minister Sam Gyimah gave a statement today on the government's space policy, focusing on the leading international opportunities.

This week, the government launched the 2018 space survey, with A’Mhoine in Scotland to host the UK’s first space port to launch satellites into polar orbit. He says “space is a fundamental part of our economic future”.

There is excitement in the sector, he says, which is an opportunity for the UK to thrive.

Whilst the House has this week has been focused on Brexit, he says “space is an area where we are leading new international partnerships”.

At Newable, we’ve been supporting the Space sector through our NPI Space Tech programme since 2017.

The programme is organised under the UK Space Tech Angels (UKSTA) initiative, devised and delivered by Newable Private Investing, in conjunction with the £80m Seraphim Space Fund.

In the past year, the Newable Private Investing Team have delivered 4 company pitching events, 3 Investor workshops and invested over £7m in 10 space tech companies, with over £2m Co-investment from the European Space Agency.
