Help to Grow: Management Course 1-2-1 mentor match for SMEs goes live
The Government’s flagship business support programme Help to Grow: Management Course is set to match thousands of small firms with volunteer mentors from leading businesses as it enters its second year.
The voluntary mentoring service goes live on Monday 1st August 2022 offering participants access to experienced mentors based on location, sector, and skill requirements.
What is Help to Grow: Management Course?
This flagship national programme was launched by the Government in August 2021 and offers senior leaders access to one-to-one support from a business mentor alongside 50 hours of leadership and management training across 12 weeks, with the government covering 90% of the costs involved. The training is designed and delivered by a national network of over 50 Business Schools accredited by the Small Business Charter.
The national mentoring element of the Help to Grow: Management Course is being delivered by Newable, in partnership with Enterprise Nation and the Association of Business Mentors on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.
What are the benefits of becoming a mentor?
Help to Grow: Management voluntary mentors commit 10 hours over 12 weeks to support businesses with their growth action plans. Mentors will receive significant value in the form of industry recognised mentor training provided by the Association of Business Mentors, peer support and opportunities for personal and professional development.
Experienced entrepreneurs and trusted advisers are also signing up to be voluntary mentors including Herman Stewart, Founder of Every Child Needs a Mentor, Banking and Fintech Innovator Helene Panzarino, Award-Winning Entrepreneur Chris Cole, Founder of 40 Fathoms and e-Commerce Innovator Nathan Lomax who launched and quickly took Quickfire Digital to a £1m revenue business.
Help to Grow: Management Course Mentor Relationship Adviser, Itzchak Shtrosberg comments on his experience of being a voluntary mentor,
“When I started my own business, I received great help from a mentor which helped me turn my business into a success. Years later, as an established business leader wanting to give something back by assisting others, I decided to become a volunteering mentor. Throughout my mentoring journey, I found that I gained as much from mentoring as did the people I mentored. It further developed my business knowledge, expanded my network, enhanced my communication skills, taught me to listen consciously, and helped me to become a better leader.”
